Priceless emergency heroes deserving of our praise

Caolan McCluskey knows the value of our emergency services better than most. For without the combined skills of paramedics from the Ambulance Service and the crew of the PSNI's Air Support Unit he would have lost a limb as a result of a road accident. The paramedics diagnosed the need for urgent hospital treatment to save his leg and the air crew ensured he got there in time.

This was two emergency services operating perfectly in tandem with a splendid outcome.

We sometimes take the emergency services for granted, expecting them to turn up and save lives or limbs almost as a matter of routine. But, as Caolan appreciates, their work is beyond price and certainly of much greater value than we often attach to it. These everyday heroes deserve undying admiration.
