Professor Maire has engineered a career to be truly proud of
Fittingly for an engineer, Professor Maire O'Neill doesn't let any glass ceilings hem her in. The youngest professor of engineering ever at Queen's University, she has a host of other major awards and nominations to her credit. And she is a mum-of-two.
As a role for model for aspiring women, she has few equals. She works in a male-dominated discipline, but works unceasingly to encourage more women into it. But Marie has to admit it was a man who inspired her - her dad.
Imagine our loss if her talent had not been recognised and given free rein. She is now recognised as a foremost expert in digital security and it is this sort of expertise that is desperately needed in Northern Ireland if we are to revitalise the economy.
