Rethink needed on plans to screen satanic films at church
To the organisers of the Belfast Film Festival, a disused church is the appropriate setting for screening The Omen and The Exorcist, just as Crumlin Road Gaol would be a great venue for a film like The Shawshank Redemption.
But they can hardly be surprised that others think that films with satanic themes are not suitable for a church, even if it is disused.
No matter whether it is still deemed to be consecrated ground or not, some former parishioners will still regard it as a sacred site with memories of baptisms, marriages and funerals - important points in life's journey.
Sensitivity to local feelings should never be overlooked.
