School's reaction to pupil's hairstyle was over the top

It is proper for schools to set standards for how pupils are dressed and their appearance. That is why uniform codes are important. But deciding what is appropriate in the ever changing fashionable looks adopted by both girls and boy in their appearance can be a more challenging task.

That is something which staff at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School are finding out. One parent is outraged that her son was put in isolation for what was deemed an inappropriate hairstyle but which, at worst, was nothing more than very short. To punish him and two other pupils by making them study in isolation seemed a harsh measure for a slight rules infringement..
