Selfless Leona a deserving recipient of PM's accolade
The Prime Minister's daily Point of Light awards are a great way of publicising the often unheralded work of volunteers and the change they wrought in their local communities. Too often people who give of their time to help others in a myriad of ways are taken almost for granted. Now they get their own spotlight.
Belfast solicitor Leona Rankin, who raised £350,000 for a charity she established after losing her fiance Philip to a form of cancer, is a deserving recipient of the Prime Minister's award.
Her group The Boom Foundation is the main referral charity for those with sarcoma. Out of her own traumatic experience has come a great good.
