Stokes' outstanding innings proves miracles do happen
There is the air of a Boys' Own hero about the outstanding innings of Ben Stokes in almost single-handedly snatching victory out of the jaws of defeat in the Ashes Test match at Headingley and squaring the series with Australia.
Credit is also due to the last man, Jack Leach, who avoided getting out with 73 runs still needed to clinch victory.
However, the lion's share of praise goes to Stokes whose flamboyant and unbeaten 135 not out was the stuff of cricket legends, and will be talked about for lifetimes to come.
The breathtaking ending to this Test match also showed the beauty of all sport. Miracles do happen and we should never take anything for granted.
