Team without a prayer wins at last as biggest fan absent
The Lord works in mysterious ways. Rev Richard Baxter, the Northern Ireland-born chaplain of a Scottish Highland League team, had spent four seasons waiting for his club to score a victory, only to miss the match that ended a 73-game losing run.
It may not have been a miracle triumph but it must have seemed like one for a team which routinely shipped 10-plus goals a game.
It caused an internet sensation and created a sense of euphoria among fans who could hardly recall what a win felt like. The absent Rev Baxter no doubt offered up the odd prayer to help his side. The team is now praying he stays away more often.
