This great city deserves your support at Christmas

Editor's Viewpoint

It is the duty of newspapers to stand up for what they believe is the greatest good. This newspaper accepts the principle of peaceful protest and debate even if we may vehemently oppose the arguments put forward.

We accept that there are many people upset over restrictions on flying the Union flag over Belfast's City Hall, even though that decision was reached democratically.

There is little point in asking those organising tomorrow's protest demonstration in the centre of Belfast to call it off.

Instead we urge people to do their bit to boost the local economy by showing their support for the retailers of the city, who fear disruption to their trade at a vital period of the year.

That is why we today publish 30 great offers for all our readers from outlets in the city.

Come into Belfast, back the city and get a bargain.
