Timely discovery of Lurgan airman's remains in Belgium
One of the moving stories of Remembrance Week was the discovery of the remains of several Allied airmen whose Lancaster bomber crashed in Belgium on the way back from an air raid in Germany in 1945.
The crew included Flying Officer Holman Gordon Stanley Kerr, from Lurgan, and it is appropriate that his remains have been identified at a time when we all remember those who died for their country.
Much credit is due to the many people who carried out the difficult work of identifying the remains, and for doing so with such dignity. It is right that such work continues where possible, decades later. Every lost life counts.
