Tommy Wright is so deserving of his historic cup victory
The world of football produces some heart-warming results, and neutral supporters everywhere will hail the victory of St Johnstone who won the Scottish Cup on Saturday for the first time in their history.
Special plaudits are due to their manager Tommy Wright, the Ulsterman who played for Northern Ireland as well as English teams before learning about management with Lisburn Distillery and other clubs.
Tommy has known sporting triumph, but also great personal sadness over the death of his son, who was born prematurely and with disabilities some two decades ago. The memory of that will never fade, but his great success on Saturday will also be remembered as a welcome boost for a good man and a true servant of football.
