True meaning of Christmas is found in charity fundraisers

Editor's Viewpoint

As we move further into December the Christmas spirit is evident in so many different ways, including the weekend charity events to raise funds for good causes - despite the bad weather.

Many people complain about the commercialisation of Christmas, and today is Manic Monday which is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Business is important, and shoppers and retailers have a vested interest in buying and selling.

However, there is more to Christmas than commercialism, and all those people in Northern Ireland who stage Christmas events to help others in need are responding to the true nature of this special season of goodwill to all.
