Unique Maghera home ticks all the boxes for presenter

Editor's Viewpoint

The Channel 4 series Grand Designs, now in its 20th year, is a celebration of the passions of individuals to build a home of their dreams.

The long-standing programme presenter Kevin McCloud says his all-time favourite is a property in Co Londonderry, made only from shipping containers.

The Maghera home, designed by local architect Patrick Bradley, is a demonstration of £10,000 worth of steel boxes being transformed into an "architectural delight", and in only less than 10 months.

Patrick Bradley's design may not sit easily beside the Victorian grandeur of Sir Charles Lanyon's masterpieces.

But it remains proof of the boundless creativity exhibited by people in our small corner of the world.
