Voters should make use of chance to have their say
In recent years the proportion of people casting their votes in elections here has fallen, indicating disenchantment with politics.
But it remains a truism that we get the politicians we deserve. Today we have the opportunity to elect our three MEPs and the councillors who will form the new 11 super-councils next year.
Democracy enables us to choose the people we want to govern us.
All we have to do is turn up at the polling booth and make our mark on the ballot paper. We should take advantage of the tremendous power that gives us.
If we don't make the effort to take part in democracy today, then we cannot complain if local politics is not to our liking.
