We're indebted to war hero Terry, scourge of the U-boats

Editor's Viewpoint

It was vital that the Allies won the Battle of the Atlantic during the Second World War as it was the route by which life-saving supplies came to these beleaguered islands from North America. The German U-boats were the scourge of Allied convoys, but one Ulsterman played a vital role in disrupting and destroying Hitler's wolf packs.

Terry Bulloch sank and damaged more U-boats than any other pilot and was rightly feted for his feats. He was the typical comic book hero whose exploits earned him legendary status among his peers.

He has died aged 98, but he deserves the undying gratitude of all who live in freedom.
