Forget cats and dogs, it’s raining fish on the streets of Belfast

Something fishy was going on along part of the Ravenhill Road on Saturday evening.

In fact the place was covered not with ‘plaice’, but with hundreds of mackerel which apparently had fallen off a lorry.

It was almost a biblical theme, with the mackerel strewn near a church, and some wit shouting: “Ask the Lord and He will provide.”

Some residents were quick to snap up these unexpected presents

However, not everyone might like the idea of eating fish that had been strewn across a busy thoroughfare.

In the end it was a matter of taste, and in more ways than one.

Certainly the incident gave a new dimension to the culinary cry ‘Frying tonight’.
