£10m traffic system takes a wrong turn

It would appear that spending some £10m on a new traffic control system (speed signs) has not made any improvements to traffic jams on the Westlink.

In fact it is worse than ever with traffic queued onto the motorway slip roads. The place is blocked by oversized lorries, so commuters have longer delays.

There are of course three |possible options to remedy the situation:

Invest in an improved through bus service for commuters from Saintfield/Lisburn/Ballynahinch. None of us wish to have to change buses or trains in Belfast if we work in places like Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus or Larne.

Widen the slip road at the Dunmurry junction so traffic is not squashed into two lanes causing endless tailbacks, rear ending collisions and delays.

Build a flyover to bypass Nelson Street and the Dunmurry slip road junctions.
