A Hall of Fame for our heroes

With the passing of such Northern Ireland 'heroes' as George Best and Alex Higgins, it brought to light that we have a lot of individuals who have over the years influenced and motivated others both at home and abroad.

Before we lose any more, and write epitaphs acknowledging how they shaped our lives, should we not seek to set up some sort of 'Hall of Fame' to acknowledge and thank them for their contributions while they are still alive.

Examples could be sports personalities, such as Mary Peters or musicians, such as Van Morrison or outstanding people of no particular vocation, who have contributed to society.

This could be an annual gala event to publicly recognise individuals, and I think would serve as good method to publicly acknowledge a lot of 'good' which our country has to offer.
