A move in the wrong direction

A new £10m traffic management system was launched in Belfast last week. It is supposed to ease the congestion on the Westlink. However, it is making it worse.

We now have endless tailbacks on the motorway slip-road to Nelson Street. There are far too many haulage lorries blocking traffic.

The suggested speed settings are inappropriate. They are either far too slow or far too fast for the prevailing traffic conditions, leading to tail-gating and rear-ending as drivers are too close.

Instead of wasting £10m on this useless system, it would have been better spent on either a flyover beyond Dunmurry, an extra lane, or a better public tranport system.

Turn off the system now before we have a pile-up.
