Abomination in using Bible for homophobia

According to a High Court judge, the Rev David McIlveen's Leviticus anti-gay advert - published in a newspaper ahead of a Gay Pride parade in Belfast in August 2008 - was freedom of expression and did not contain an exhortation to violence (News, March 23).

Has he read Leviticus? The text says: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death'' (Lev. 20:13, KJV). It's impossible to ignore.

No matter what theological spin is given, such violent hatred towards gay people is there in Leviticus (and in the doctrine of Hell).

Those people who use the Bible to justify their homophobia are only encouraging hatred. In our enlightened times, it's they that are the real 'abomination'.
