Abortion issue is beyond politicians
For non-lawyers like me, Mr Justice Horner's recent abortion judgment is a difficult read, but I found it a rewarding one.
If our present abortion services don't conform to European Convention standards we should surely adjust them accordingly.
But first we need to ensure that the legal position is beyond challenge. For that certainty, the case must now be referred to Northern Ireland's highest court.
This intractable issue seems too sensitive for our politicians to resolve themselves, but resolve it they must.
The Convention is at the heart of the Good Friday Agreement. Relying on it now is probably the only feasible way forward.
