Airport pick-up charge could be an ‘O’Leary’
Yesterday morning two German visitors came to the end of a week’s holiday with us and their biggest surprise came just before their departure from Belfast International Airport.
They were flabbergasted at the notion that anyone could be charged to leave off or pick up a passenger.
They travel widely within and outside Germany and had never encountered such a charge, including at airports of the size and prestige of Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich.
We often travel to Gatwick and Faro and, similarly, no charge for this ‘service’ is levied.
There is a touch of the O’Leary about all this. Have the airport authorities been talking to Ryanair’s chief?
What on earth are our consumer protection bodies doing about this blatant mugging of air travellers?
