Alliance tries to laugh off BBC phone furore

Well done, Belfast Telegraph, for exposing the tale of the Alliance Party's plot to abuse the BBC's phone-lines (News, February 21).

And a special prize for Eilis O'Hanlon, whose hilarious commentary on the tale is the most refreshing piece of journalism that I've read for a long time.

About the Alliance Party Press conference, it would be kinder not to speak. "Tongue in cheek", we were told. Aye, right.

As your former columnist Billy Simpson would say, youse heff till leff.

The sentence which follows is written in a spirit of the merest goodwill. Let us all hope that the Alliance Party will achieve exactly the kind of election result which it deserves.
