Bad apples must not spoil barrel

The Holy Father's appointment of Cardinal Ouellet as the new cardinal chief of the Congregation for Bishops is an excellent choice.

The church must stay true to its core values and teachings, and Cardinal Ouellet will contribute to that goal. The Holy Father has apologised for the actions of a few priests and, by doing so, speaks for the entire church.

As a former Catholic priest, and one born in Northern Ireland, I stand by my church, reminding everyone that the actions of a few should not erase all the accomplishments of the church, and the dedicated service of the more than 400,000 priests worldwide.
