Bad taste to strike out now

At this time of private difficulties within the Robinson family, the opportunist statements by Jim Allister and Reg Empey remind us about the quality of leadership these politicians would offer to Northern Ireland's people.

Mr Allister in the EU poll a few months ago failed to hold his MEP seat. Reg Empey, as UUP leader, in the 2007 Assembly election managed to be returned only in third place; the lone representative of his party in East Belfast. They don't fill the electorate with confidence.

There is a time to strike at your political opponents. However, it is in bad taste to do so when the problems are family and personal.

Shame on Messrs Allister and Empey.
