Being courteous can cause road accidents

I must reply to Tony Fagen (Write Back, January 11) for suggesting drivers should be courteous and give way to drivers turning right.

Tony should read the Highway Code. This will tell him it is an offence to beckon other road users.

Not only is it illegal, it is dangerous. Being courteous is one thing, but safety is more important. The person turning right will be sitting there for ever.
