Billy on Box just not at the races

I find it rather disappointing to read Billy on the Box (Sport, March 15) comparing the intercounties' cross-country championships to an English district sack race and a Commonwealth egg-and-spoon race.

Northern Ireland sent five of the province's top distance runners to this prestigious event, who all competed admirably.

Cross-country running may not be a mass-participation event but to compare it with the above demonstrates an ignorance and misunderstanding of the talent, fitness and dedication required to excel at the highest level in this field of athletics.
