Brady coverage promotes false view of abuse
Your approach to the Cardinal Brady issue contributes to a contrived impression that most priests are paedophiles and that most paedophiles are priests. A horrendous distortion.
Research (SAVI Report, 2002) indicates that 3.2% of sexual abuse victims in Ireland were abused by clergy or religious orders.
On the other hand, 80% of perpetrators were known by the victim: family members, neighbours, teachers, babysitters, childcare workers, sports coaches, youth leaders. And 25% of child sexual abusers are children themselves.
Your approach seems to be: let's not let the facts get in the way of a bit of contrived hysteria.
It may shore up your declining sales, but it validates the old truism: don't believe anything you read in the papers.
