Brokenshire deserves praise for GAA gesture

I would like to lend my wholehearted support for the diplomatic manner in which the Secretary of State handled himself at Sunday’s GAA match. I am also surprised at my friend Conor McGinn for criticising James Brokenshire.

Conor knows full well that a member of the Government could not be seen to be supporting Irish rule in Northern Ireland.

I feel that James Brokenshire’s efforts to build bridges has not been appreciated by Conor, who as an Irish national can stand for election as a British Labour MP, while refusing to allow fellow citizens resident in Northern Ireland to stand as Labour candidates in March’s election.
