Bus pass limits would save cash and aching feet

IN view of the pending fare increases on Translink and the current shortage of funding, I would like to propose consideration of the following amendment to the current free passes as issued to pensioners.

1. I would advocate a nominal £1 single fare for any train journey and a corresponding 50p single fare on buses.

2. I would suggest that these concession fares be available only between, say, 10am and 4.30pm, avoiding the current situation where pensioners occupy seats while fare-paying passengers are standing.

3. I would suggest that these concession fares only be allowable within Northern Ireland.

I believe that the above is entirely reasonable and represents an excellent compromise for all concerned, while reducing the obvious costs in the current scheme considerably.
