Business as usual at the Assembly

Before the recent election, we were told the Stormont Assembly's main achievement was that it was still there.

Voters were told that it was time to take a more business-like approach to government.

So I went to the Assembly to view the selection of ministers. The proceedings were, indeed, straightforward and business-like - until we came to the appointment of the Minister for Justice.

In spite of there being an agreed process for this, we in the public gallery were treated to party posturing and time-wasting that bodes ill for any business-like approach to government.

On the contrary, it appears to be business as usual.
