Campbell’s slur on Republic is breathtaking
I watched with a growing sense of disbelief as a Member of Parliament (Gregory Campbell) spoke on BBC NI Spotlight.
What took my breath away was Gregory's closing remarks: “There have been 10,000 bloody days where innocent people have been mostly murdered by an organisation set up by government assistance in the Irish Republic. That was state-aided murder for 30 years.”
I should like to know on what basis Gregory Campbell, MP, MLA, is making this damning indictment of a sovereign state? Where are the facts?
While I am used to hearing certain politicians from Mr Campbell's party make similar remarks under parliamentary privilege, I think it incredible that a Member of Parliament is permitted to speak such dangerous nonsense on television.
Can he, or indeed the leader of his party, explain this? I look forward to their response — and, indeed, that of the Irish and British governments.
