Census figures hide real rise in Protestants

Some in the media get their mathematics confused when they relate percentages to figures.

It should be understood that the lower percentage of a greater number can be more than the higher percentage of a smaller number.

This is exactly what has happened as they try to interpret the new census figures.

They imply that Protestant numbers have declined. Quite the contrary.

In the past 10 years, Protestants have increased by 112,500 and the total number of Protestants in Northern Ireland is now at an all-time high since the state was founded in 1921.
