Churches need to modernise

Alf McCreary (Inside, March 19) says that "all churches are likely to stand firmly against" the holding of gay marriages on church premises.

In fact, several churches in Britain and Ireland are happy to perform gay marriage ceremonies on their premises.

They include the Unitarian Churches, Free Christian Churches, the Metropolitan Church, Unity Church and the Quakers, among others.

Sooner or later, British and Irish Anglicans will come into line with the American Anglicans and perform gay marriages in Anglican churches.
