Columnist too flippant about perils of casinos
FIONOLA Meredith (Comment, September 11) castigates our politicians for not allowing casinos in the province.
She also seems to think that 2% of the population being addicted to gambling is no big deal. By my reckoning, that is 30,000 people. I wonder if she has spoken – as I have – to mothers whose children have become gambling addicts? Does she know anything of the heartache, the financial problems for the parents, the psychological damage, that ensues due to such addiction?
I would praise our politicians for trying to prevent gambling becoming even more widespread.
