Comment was 'anti-Catholic' and offensive

As an Irish Catholic, I am painfully aware of the failings of some within our faith at home and abroad.

I am also aware that a trawl through history as far back as the Second World War and up to the recent marriage affairs of some English footballers and Hollywood stars could, as Julie Birchill has done (Comment, September 9), turn up enough examples of behaviour by members of any faith which, when mixed in with existing prejudice, provide a basis for an intolerant rant.

At a time when religious and political leaders around the world are calling for tolerance and understanding of other faiths, you have chosen to offend your Catholic readers by printing such anti-Catholic vitriol accompanied by a cartoon which really belongs to another era.
