Councils who approved circus acts a disgrace

Please allow me to support the view expressed by Helen Davies (Write Back, March 6) on the subject of wild animal acts appearing in circuses and some of our local councils who apparently are unable to see the dreadful error in encouraging such cruelty.

This is a sad reflection on where we are as a society. I would invite one of the councillors who voted in favour of this action to respond to Ms Davies' letter.

My personal view is that, if elected representatives are unable to judge such a matter in a civilised manner, then it is a poor prospect for the good people of Newtonabbey under whose jurisdiction they reside.

Such decisions demonstrate that we in Northern Ireland have yet to reach maturity.
