Demographic changes are part of elections here

As the Irish presidential election is looming at the end of next month, I wonder whether anyone involved in its organisation is aware of the usual demographic changes which always occur before and after an election in this island.

We all know very well that the population of border towns such as Dundalk swell in advance of an Irish election and fall during a census in Northern Ireland - guesthouses and other hostelries being fully booked by the temporary residents.

I trust sense will prevail when votes are cast and the favourite indicated by Paddy Power, Michael D Higgins, will be the winner, the rest falling at the first fence.
