Disasters: Is God trying to send us a message?

The earthquake in New Zealand is yet another natural disaster to add to the many that have taken place globally in the past few years.

One wonders if these could be the 'signs of the times' that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24. His disciples asked Him: "What will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?" Jesus informed them: "You will hear of wars and rumours of wars . . . for nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."

These events do seem to be gathering pace and some terrible disasters have dominated our television screens of late. Of course, there have always been such disasters, but they are definitely becoming more frequent.

The earthquake in New Zealand, following on from a lesser one last year, should make us all think if God is trying to get our attention.

The uprisings in many Islamic countries surrounding Israel could also bring many changes and the eventual conflagration prophesied: that God "will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all peoples" and all nations of the earth will be gathered against it (Zechariah 12: 1-4.)

These verses mention "all the surrounding peoples" which are the Arab and Islamic nations adjacent to Israel, which would be most likely to attack her, however God says He will destroy all nations that do so.

We need to watch and be ready. We've had these things written for us in the Bible ahead of time, so we can be prepared and expect it.
