Doctors' salaries need treatment

The Compton report hardly scratches the surface of the real crisis of high costs in the NHS.

The real costs that need to be addressed are salaries. Why are UK doctors paid so much?

Many consultants are said to be paid more than £100,000 per year with many GPs earning more - supposedly second only to the US.

If the basis for that lies in competing with the US for the best staff, why isn't there an effort to co-operate with the US government to drive down upward salary pressure?

Why is it not happening? Would it be due to political power being exerted through wealthy doctors being donors to political parties here and in the US?

Is any party prepared to admit how much they receive from doctor donors when they give their views on this report?
