Drug abuse by our doctors is a scary thought

The coverage in the Belfast Telegraph by Patrice Dougan of the inquest into the death of Gareth Dickson has really worried me (News, February 25).

It was bad enough knowing that you could go into hospital and lie on a trolley for hours, or worse still, contract MRSA.

The revelation that the doctors who staff our hospitals spend the weekends binge-drinking at parties where drugs, both illegal and prescribed, are abused is scary.

Were any of the doctors concerned on duty that weekend?

Police should investigate the use of illegal drugs at the party, as well as determining whether the prescription-only drug oxycodone came from a local hospital.

Finally, I can safely say that, if it was three PSNI officers who were involved in this orgy of drink and drugs, then certain segments of the media would have a field day reporting and analysing it.
