Dubious past of award to Pope

I'D advise the Pope not to do cartwheels on learning he has been selected as Time magazine Man of the Year (News, December 12).

In 1939, Time named Joseph Stalin its Man of the Year, a man who had the USSR dotted with gulags. In 1938 the award went to Adolf Hitler. In 1979, it was Ayatollah Khomeini – and we know where he led his country.
