Earth's resources are our heritage

Your correspondent Louis Shawcross (Write Back, September 20) is correct. The hypocrisy of our Government's foreign policy is plain for all to see, but this is the way all governments are compelled to behave in a capitalist world divided into competing states where might is right.

So, to be taken notice of internationally, each state has to try to arm itself with the most up-to-date weapons of production that it can afford.

Only when the resources of the Earth, natural and industrial, have become the common heritage of all humanity will the framework have been established for a world of real peace in which such weapons won't be needed.
