Eddie, BT and the virus

Eddie McIlwaine's encounter with BT (Review, July 17) does ring true. I had a virus in my computer and, after having it cleaned, could not re-connect with BT.

I rang BT's helpdesk (?) three times for advice. On the third occasion, the operator admitted she could not help so I asked for an engineer to call round.

"It will cost you £88," she said. I cancelled my contract, but they did let me keep my email address - for £1.50 a month.
