Elderly need more protection
Recent statements from the PSNI that there are 'not many' attacks upon old people are essentially untrue.
Two years ago, approximately one-in-seven of all burglaries were carried out against the elderly. This has now risen to approximately one-in-six.
The public has a right to comprehensive explanations. With regard to an attack which I have personal knowledge of, the Inspector stated that effectiveness was inhibited by "political correctness" and, anyway, criminals who have no permanent residence "escape over the border".
There appears, also, to be a lack of diligence in checking the tax and registration status of the vehicles that these criminals use.
Only when the PSNI desist from underplaying this problem will something will be done about it.
