End the danger of school runs

DRIVING through Hillsborough last week as the primary school pupils were getting out, I was met with mayhem.

Mothers in their 4x4s were pulling out without signalling, as other mothers, with their two or three children, were negotiating traffic coming in both directions.

I slowed down to allow a frantic mum and her two fledglings to manoeuvre between parked vehicles to cross the road – no sign of pedestrian crossings.

This is a chronic situation awaiting a serious, or (Heaven forbid) fatal, accident.

It's about time this picturesque village came into the 21st century.
