Everyone has the right to speak up for unborn child

I was saddened and disappointed that the majority of the online comments you printed (Writeback, Jan 13) were pro-abortion. In my opinion, many were also ill-informed.

Firstly, men do have the right to speak up in defence of the unborn.

The pro-life position is based on the human rights of the unborn child.

Anyone, regardless of their gender, has the right to defend the right to life of a fellow human being.

In addition to this, every child in the womb has a father as well as a mother.

A father should have the right to defend his own child's right to life.

Secondly, the unborn child is not just part of the mother's body - the child is a person within the mother's body.

At conception we are genetically complete and this is when all our lives begin.

What a callous opinion to reduce a separate, unique human life to just being part of the mother's body.

Thirdly, it is totally unfair to try to reduce the pro-life position simply to being a religious point of view.

The pro-life position is self-evident.

It is based on the human rights of the unborn child whose life begins at conception.

Some people's faith informs them of this, but for others it is a logical conclusion.
