Godfathers of terrorism in the background

DUP leader Peter Robinson's rebuke of Rev Ian Paisley for stating that political leaders in Dublin brought the Dublin and Monaghan bombings on themselves is a welcome, if belated, step in furthering relations on this island.

But Mr Robinson's retort that "the people who are responsible for terrorist actions are terrorists" (January 11) ignores the shadowy figures who provided the sectarian rhetoric, the logistics, the targets, and ensured an unhindered operation. These 'godfathers' were as much terrorists as those who planted the bombs.
