Having the good grace to be more tolerant
The recent interest in the lack of Grace at a Belfast civic dinner reminded me of the reading of a short passage from the scriptures which used to precede the monthly council meeting.
Having noted that this was observed more in ignoring, wandering in late, or quiet chatting, as Lord Mayor, in 2004, I obtained readings from many religious leaders, including Christians (various denominations), Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Bahais. I read these without demur. Perhaps this goes to show that most of us can be more tolerant of other peoples' ideas.
Surely this must be built upon, instead of our usual knee-jerk reaction of objection and rejection?
