Colin Nevin (Write Back, March 8) says Israel "is the only country [in the Middle East] keeping quiet during all the turmoil, as its citizens don't need to topple any undemocratically-elected despots".
Millions of Palestinians have lived under Israeli military occupation since 1967 without democratic rights. They cannot vote in the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, which rules over them.
That is a form of despotism, intolerable as any that exists.
If Israel is to be a "light to the nations" of the Middle East it should withdraw its military occupation, or grant the Palestinians it rules over the vote in the Knesset.
