Junior clubs are preventing sport’s growth

For many observers the latest shenanigans in IFA corridors may seem confused and difficult to understand. Perhaps a quick snapshot on the politics may help.

Basically the junior clubs have the majority share of the voting rights within the organisation. They favour the Raymond Kennedy/David Martin partnership as both have junior football connections. These clubs in turn will do everything they can to hold on to the present power base.

In the other corner are the 12 senior clubs (and others) who want to move forward to an improved organisation fit for the 21st century.

In no other league in the world do the junior partners hold the senior clubs to ransom and the time will shortly come when the senior clubs will have to look seriously at setting up their own league away from the constraints of those who refuse to be dragged into the 21st century.
